Quality Nostagia

I grew up in southwestern Virginia and now have lived for decades on the west coast of Canada. I had completely forgotten rugs of this kind until a friend pointed out Capel Rugs’ site. Nostalgia came flooding back, including memories of a school friend whose parents sharecropped, living in a mud-chinked log cabin whose interior walls were freshly flour-pasted over, each fall, with fresh sheets of newspaper. On the floor, they had the folk version of these rugs, braided from whatever clothing the family had worn out! When our two arrived from Capel’s, I was delighted by their elegant, almost Modernist simplicity, and the evident skill with which they had been assembled. Thank you, Cabel’s!
