Tuscan Sun rug in beige

Our Mediterranean-inspired collections from Kevin O’Brien have received such widespread acclaim, that we’ve adopted a handful of additional colorways to the Ramblas, Riviera and Tuscan Sun lines. These collections take on enhanced personalities with their updated color schemes.

Tuscan Sun, which was honored during the 2014 America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards, is now available in a neutral beige colorway. Signature tones of brown and yellow combine with stripes of muted green and blue to create an anything but drab floor covering. The beautiful pattern for Tuscan Sun was lifted directly from the paintings done in O’Brien’s sketchbook during a trip to Italy.

“The seventh sunset in Tuscany was as beautiful as the first six, and after a week I had a sketchbook full of paintings of suns hovering over lush layers of landscape,” said O’Brien of the inspiration behind this hand tufted 100% wool rug.

Kevin O'Brien CollectionL-R: Riviera in cream, Ramblas in Mediterranean blue and Riviera in grey

Riviera, which launched in an assortment of spa tones, has gone neutral as well, with updated cream and grey colorways. These flat woven dhurries are perfect for layering with other rugs. And our new Riviera shades are perfect for adding a pop of eye-catching pattern in a formal living room or dining area.

The new Ramblas colorway will transport you right into the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll feel the enchantment and romance of Italy in this lovely Mediterranean blue. Our hand tufted rug features an ombre pattern with deep dark blues along the edges. The pattern gives way to a lighter blue in the center that mirrors the look of light reflecting across the sea. The addition of 20% viscose to this wool rug gives off the feeling of ocean waves as the threads truly shine when struck by the sun.

Are you in love with these new looks as much as we are? Then bring one of these signature designer looks from Kevin O’Brien into your home today.

Capel licensee and HGTV star Genevieve Gorder has expanded her offerings under the Capel Rugs umbrella with the addition of braided, hand tufted and flat woven designs to her wildly successful collection. Gorder’s previous designs had all been flat woven dhurries.

“I’ve been doing dhurries exclusively for the past few seasons — I love the dhurrie and I’ll never stop — but we wanted to also play in the world of tufted and outdoor, and I wanted to expand it into different horizons — price and different constructions,” Gorder told Furniture Today.

Genevieve Gorder RugsL-R: The Player in stone pigeon, Ancient Arrow in leo sun and Finesse Mandala in noir.

The Player design is braided at our mill in North Carolina and is perfect for layering with other rugs. The casual rug features fringe along two edges and incorporates two stripes for a pop of color against the neutral bases. The Player comes in six colorways and is reversible for twice the use between cleanings.

“I wanted to dip into braids. It’s Capel. Who else does braids like Capel? I wanted to create the 501 jean that’s really basic,” Gorder said.

The hand tufted Ancient Arrow rug contains hand-drawn, imperfect lines for the vintage feel. But the use of the repeating striped pattern gives Ancient Arrow a truly contemporary look. The 80% wool, 20% viscose rug is a bold addition to our expansive line of hand tufted rugs.

For the outdoor living space, Gorder has taken the outdoor rug and elevated it to new levels. The intricate and familiar patterns from old centuries are at the forefront of our Finesse Mandala and Finesse Moor rugs. These distressed, and seemingly aged, looks will add contrast to any deck or patio.

“I wanted to bring that indoor antique to the outdoor. It’s distressed and ancient because everything in outdoor feels so contemporary,” Gorder said. “It’s all so crispy plastic. I wanted to entertain everyone.”

We simply can’t contain our excitement for the new additions to the Genevieve Gorder collection, and we know you’ll feel the same way once you see them for yourself.

Pizzazz RugsWe had a blast this High Point Market showing off our latest rug collections and showcased a number of special guests. Our showroom – Market Square, Space 112 – was packed every day with style spotters, buyers and designers who were all eager to see our latest fashion-forward designs.

Braided rugs aren’t new for us – we’ve been making them since 1917 – but our Pizzazz rug is anything but dated. This bold design features today’s hottest jewel tones in our world-famous wool tape braid; it’s sure to be the center of attention in any room. Layers of high-fashion color paralleled with a micro braid create a stunning high-low effect. These made in the USA rugs are reversible for double the wear between cleanings. Pizzazz is available in amethyst, deep emerald and sapphire.

Visitors to the showroom on Sunday and Monday met the designers behind some of our latest collections, receive decorating advice and got a behind-the-scenes look at a live photo shoot featuring our licensees. COCOCOZY, Genevieve Gorder, Kevin O’Brien and Susan and Kate Hable from Hable Construction basked in the glow of the bright lights and had a great time playing it up for the camera.

Our designers (L-R from top): COCOCOZY, Genevieve Gorder, Susan and Kate Hable and Kevin O’Brien.

COCOCOZY debuted several new rug designs that are sure to be among the most sought-after by trendy homeowners in late 2014. O’Brien adopted new colorways to the Ramblas, Riviera and Tuscan Sun designs – all of which received rave reviews during winter markets. Hable Construction showed off their hand knot collection, including customer favorite Aspen in spice red.

Gorder expanded beyond the flat woven category and introduced her first braid – The Player – and hand tufted – Ancient Arrow – rugs. The Player features a simple design that layers well with a variety of other rugs, while Ancient Arrow contains a repeating pattern of imperfect, hand-drawn lines striped for a contemporary look made to last. The HGTV star also showed off new designs that are perfect for the great outdoors with Finesse Mandala and Finesse Moor.

To top it all off, Gorder also added Dokka Stripe to her line of flat-woven dhurries. The striped rugs catch the eye with one bank of color pop in the center. Geometric, tribal and familiar, Dokka Stripe was inspired by Gorder’s roots and is named for the hometown of her great grandfather.

All this excitement has us already counting down the days until the fall High Point Market on October 18. Don’t miss out on the fun and book your trip now!

On the heels of our successful launch last fall of the Hableland collection of loop hooked and braided rugs, we’re proud to introduce three luxurious hand knot designs as part of our latest collaboration with Hable Construction.

Aspen, Infinity and Laurel have generated a huge buzz among Las Vegas Market attendees. The 100% wool rugs feature transitional motifs and fringe, and like all of our hand knotted rugs, they’re individually crafted by master weavers and last for several generations.

For those seeking a neutral design, Laurel – available in taupe or wheat – features a geometric pattern surrounded by familiar interlocking wreaths.

Tuscan Sun in turquesa from our Kevin O’Brien collection was honored during the 2014 America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards on January 10, receiving the award for hand tufted rugs in the less than $8 per square foot price range. The event for rug show attendees took place at the Hyatt Regency during the Atlanta International Rug Market.

“We continue to think outside the box with our designs and with our marketing efforts,” said Allen Robertson, vice president of sales. “The amazing response we’ve received for our new collections, including this award, makes us optimistic about our business in 2014.”

Tuscan Sun draws upon the striking landscapes that O’Brien captured in sketches during his recent trip to Tuscany. The transitional rug, made from 90% wool and 10% viscose, brings the enchantment and romance of Italy into any home. The award-winning design is available in three colorways: grey, spa cream and turquesa.

“The seventh sunset in Tuscany was as beautiful as the first six, and after a week I had a sketchbook full of paintings of suns hovering over lush layers of landscape,” said O’Brien. “Winning the award for a rug based on these paintings is as rewarding as any of those evenings in Italy.”

We also introduced five additional designs in the Kevin O’Brien collection: Finesse Santorini, Lisbon, Portofino, Ramblas and Riviera. The collection, created in partnership with the renowned textile designer, received much recognition from buyers and media during the 2014 rug show in Atlanta at AmericasMart.

Recipients of the America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards were chosen by: Annette Joseph, an expert on entertaining, cooking and styling who regularly appears on the Today show; interior designer Darcy Adler; and Sharian Garner of Oriental rug dealer Sharian Rugs. The winning rugs were displayed in the Museum of Introductions Gallery January 8 through 11 so that market attendees could take a closer look at these fabulous rugs.
