The Fourth of July sparks an air of patriotism as we celebrate Independence Day. It is a time to eat barbecue and watch fireworks with family, and also a time to honor the craftsmanship of American made products. Braided, American-made rugs are where it all started for Capel in 1917. Today, Capel Rugs is still invested in the craft of making American goods.

Here are a few of our American favorites that will amplify the patriotic spirit in your home.

Americanflag

The American Pride braided wall hanging is the ultimate patriotic addition for the Fourth and makes a striking statement in the foyer. Braided area rugs can be constructed in a variety of different ways depending on desired look and materials used. However, all Capel braided rugs are crafted for quality or durability using our own premium fibers to last, as yarn or fabric is braided to form a continuous rope.

Bearcreekrug

A Capel braided rug, such as our Bear Creek rug in Grey, just says classic American rug. But, the range of all rugs today show that Americans are innovative and progressive, and we are always looking for new ways to make creative and useful products.

Capelcreativeconcepts

Creative Concepts is a border rug program that allows you to design your own machine woven rug from more than 120 fabric borders to create a custom look that is perfect for indoor and outdoor spaces. This gives the customers the freedom to produce unique and truly personal area rugs. And the best part? These rugs are all made in America!

As the summer season begins, families everywhere will be updating the look of their homes. Pantone Universe has released its 100 hottest trend colors of Valspar paint. The exclusive offerings that are sure to brighten up any room are available at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

After you’ve applied paint to your walls or refinished old furniture to get the latest look, the perfect finishing touch is a new rug. Whether you’ve chosen Emerald, Peony or Beach Glass, Capel has the best selection to match or contrast.

Flash_Emerald2

Emerald, which was named 2013 Color of the Year in December, has brought a sophistication and elegance to both the fashion industry and home décor. A coat of Emerald paint can be used in a foyer or to accent a wall in a kitchen or living room. Flash in Haze is the perfect complement to Emerald. It helps balance the brightness of an entryway while giving a touch of the Ombre look in a 100 percent wool rug.

NYDot_Peony

Genevieve Gorder’s NY Dot in Peony finishes off the Peony look from ceiling to floor when used as an accent rug. The flat woven transitional rug is great for a vibrant craft area or a fashionable room for your daughter.

Arden_BeachSand

If an elevated look is what you want, then the Biltmore For Your Home® Collection’s Arden in Charcoal paired with Beach Glass fits the bill. Wedding season is upon us again with brides preparing for their special day. Many do-it-yourself brides are trying to find the perfect touches to make their big day an affair to remember. Using a Capel rug to accent your sweetheart or escort-card table is a unique way to add some flair.

SweetheartTable_Rug_Pair_Flair

A bride can choose a rug that brings out certain colors in her bouquet or complements her bridesmaid dresses, centerpieces or venue. In the above photo, we suggest using the Plus One in Sky Blue from the Flair collection to accent the pastel color palette of the wedding.

The addition of the graphic rug would help make the sweetheart table the center of attention. The hand tufted rug also gives the bride and groom more room to breathe around the table by providing an extra boundary to the rest of the reception. This small touch adds a ton of charm and is a non-intrusive way to further develop your theme.

Another great benefit of having a quality wool rug as a decorative part of your do-it-yourself wedding is the keepsake memento you get to cherish for years to remember your big day. Once your reception is over, you can take it with you to adorn the new home that you and your husband start together. No matter where you place it – perhaps your master bedroom or living room – a Capel rug will serve as a daily reminder of your special day.

The high note of home décor each year is High Point Market. Thousands of movers and shakers descend on the town to make decisions about what will be the hot new trends of the year ahead. We’re thrilled to say that this Market was another stunning success for Capel Rugs as we introduced our newest designer, Coco, from the sensational blog COCOCOZY.

Rugs by COCOCOZY

The showroom was laid out to demonstrate how the colorful collection uses Coco’s signature patterns in new, seemingly effortless ways. Each rug – 24 in all – can be freely mixed and matched. It wasn’t just the visual appeal that struck buyers, though. There were plenty of amazed reactions at how soft each rug is. There’s something especially plush about these 100% wool hand-knotted Indo-Tibetan weaves.

Buyers took notice, placing substantial orders for all five designs in all available colors. The collection was so well received that buyers were placing orders on the spot. Others called their orders in before heading home. We knew that COCOCOZY had serious attraction, but this reception was beyond our expectations.

There was also a huge attendance at our cocktail party to introduce Coco. Because of her anonymity online, few knew what to expect. The biggest dealers in the business and the industry’s leading publications walked away saying that Coco herself is just like her collection – modern, stylish and accessible.

High Point, N.C. April 22, 2013 – Acclaimed interior designer and television star Genevieve Gorder demonstrated her star power by drawing a crowd of designers and retailers at the 2013 Spring High Point Market for a Question and Answer brunch this weekend.

Designer Genevieve Gorder for Capel Rugs

John Magee, Genevieve Gorder, Cameron Capel and Allen Robertson

Now in its third year, the partnership between Capel Rugs and Genevieve Gorder features 10 lines of flatwoven rugs in a multitude of colorways. Attendees asked Gorder about her inspiration for her soulful, whimsical patterns.

“Inspiration is all around you, if you’re looking for it. I just got back from another trip overseas where the architecture and culture of the Middle East had a powerful effect on me. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those elements continue to have a place in my designs.”

Gorder emphasized that design can have a positive impact on the way people live. “Design is an emotional, personal, even sensual experience. Your personal feelings or emotions on a given day, week or month can have an impact on your design.”

Other audience questions covered being on-trend with rugs like Arabesque in Emerald, where the next ‘big thing’ would come from (possibly Brazil?) and how her collection targets a young, forward-thinking crowd but can fit into more conservative homes just as well.

Following the Q&A, enthusiastic fans snapped photos with Gorder, who is one of three judges on the show HGTV Design Star and is currently working on a series about the renovation of her home in New York City.

Today’s world is a cultural melting pot, where different social and cultural trends blend and coexist to create a beautiful sense of harmony. Here at Capel Rugs, we understand the powerful attraction of opposites, and that’s why we’ve worked with our team of all-star designers to develop a variety of creative designs that combine light and dark tones, bold and subtle shapes, and classic and current elements for today’s eclectic living patterns.

Capel has an entire series of contemporary collections based on this fashionably modern theme. These unique designs are offered in a wide variety of patterns to brighten any room, from florals and medallions to geometrics and abstracts. Our contemporary rugs also come in a huge selection of colors, constructions and shapes, so no matter what your taste, you can find the perfect rug for your home’s décor and personality.

Rugs by BiltmoreMedallion, part of the Arrondelle collection from the Biltmore line, is a perfect example of Capel’s unique approach to contemporary design. Shown here in the Jade colorway, Medallion takes classic design elements from the past and renders them in a bold graphic pattern that’s perfect for today’s lifestyles. This design simultaneously conveys a sense of balance and drama through its varying medallion sizes and shapes. Hand tufted in India of 100% wool, Medallion also is available in two other color ways — Nickel and Parchment.

Contemporary RugsThe Tempo group, shown here in the Sand Multi pattern, blends light and dark tones in a creative combination of abstract, geometric shapes. What immediately draws the eye to this stunning rug is the seemingly random and unorganized placement of the motifs. But look closer, and you’ll see how the use of strategic layering gives every color and shape its own place. Made in India of 100% hand-tufted New Zealand wool, the Sand Multi Tempo rug is available in runner and rectangular shapes.

Classic Chic RugsBowden Scallop, a new wool design from the Williamsburg collection, bridges two distinct worlds — contemporary and traditional — with a lively yet elegant design. Shown here in the Blue Bell color way, Bowden Scallop mixes different shapes, sizes and shades of blue dots to create a fresh, transitional statement with loads of personality. Hand tufted in India, this rug is available in runner and rectangular shapes and three other color ways — Bamboo, Parchment and Spice.

At Capel we love bringing you the latest tips and trends to help you decorate your home in style. A rising color favorite that we’ve come to love—and know you will, too—is indigo, one of this year’s hottest hues.

That’s right, we said indigo—the mysterious color that isn’t quite blue or purple, and yet has elements of both. Traditionally, indigo is the color of devotion and wisdom, but it also represents the beauty of calm and dignity. It’s about maintaining harmony and finding a deeper level of consciousness. It’s inspirational while still giving off an old, familiar feeling, and you can incorporate it into your home with a number of amazing rugs from the Capel collections.

Hannah by Williamsburg for Capel RugsThe Hannah style rug is a contemporary rug design from Williamsburg and Capel Rugs. Beautifully woven from pure wool yarns, the Hannah rugs feature Capel’s loop hooked construction, which serves to create that heavier, warm, comfortable feel associated with the highest quality rugs.

Droplets from Kevin O'BrienThe Droplets Style is another quality wool, contemporary rug design, but this time from Capel’s Kevin O’Brien collection. What makes this design so captivating is the range of colors involved. With a central theme of indigo surrounded by lighter blues and darker purples, this piece can match any number of styles and absolutely makes a room.

The deep indigo colorway isn’t just for contemporary rugs. For those who prefer a more traditional rug, there’s the hand knotted Lotus style design from the Williamsburg collection. You can see how the classic border-style design focuses around a central motif. Sure to complete any room, this indigo-colored rug inspires with its intricate design and beauty.

Are you getting into indigo this year? Let us know what your indigo ideas are—we’d love to know how you’re incorporating this incredibly expressive colorway into your home.

One of this season’s hottest trends is also its most timeless. That’s right, we’re talking about Navajo Style, one of the most popular looks to come along in quite a while. And at Capel, we’re working to bring you stunning designs that modernize this classic look in a number of fun and festive ways.

To see just how widespread Navajo stylings have become, check out this Pinterest board we’ve been working on. It’s got everything from a “wall of color” comprised of traditional Navajo blankets to Andy Gilmore’s digital interpretation of this iconic pattern. Whether it’s skirts and shoes or table settings and jewelry, it’s clear that this is a look people love. Of course, at Capel, we can’t help but point out that rugs may be the perfect way to display these rich textures of patterns and color—and we’ve pinned a couple of our favorites for your perusing pleasure.

Pow Wow RugsThe hand-tufted Pow Wow rug uses an ikat pattern, resulting in a deeply affecting colorway that transforms simple geometric shapes into a striking textural field. Whether you’re using it as a part of a transitional design or as the centerpiece of a room, this is a rug that’s sure to create conversation.

Uzbek Tribal RugVenturing a bit farther afield, Genevieve Gorder’s Uzbek Transitional Rug in Bokrum Blue showcases a global variation on the Southwestern theme, utilizing tribal patterns that reflect the shared inheritance of rug makers worldwide. We think both rugs exhibit the interplay between rustic and modern, classic and contemporary, the familiar and the unknown, that make the Navajo style so popular, this season or any other.

You can see the entire Pow Wow collection here (it’s available in three compelling colorways), and be sure to take a look at all five interpretations of the Uzbek collection here. We’d love to know how you’re incorporating this look into your design plans—tell us in the comments which Capel rugs are a must-have for putting together the perfect room!
