High Point, N.C. April 22, 2013 – Acclaimed interior designer and television star Genevieve Gorder demonstrated her star power by drawing a crowd of designers and retailers at the 2013 Spring High Point Market for a Question and Answer brunch this weekend.

Now in its third year, the partnership between Capel Rugs and Genevieve Gorder features 10 lines of flatwoven rugs in a multitude of colorways. Attendees asked Gorder about her inspiration for her soulful, whimsical patterns.

“Inspiration is all around you, if you’re looking for it. I just got back from another trip overseas where the architecture and culture of the Middle East had a powerful effect on me. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those elements continue to have a place in my designs.”

Gorder emphasized that design can have a positive impact on the way people live. “Design is an emotional, personal, even sensual experience. Your personal feelings or emotions on a given day, week or month can have an impact on your design.”

Other audience questions covered being on-trend with rugs like Arabesque in Emerald, where the next ‘big thing’ would come from (possibly Brazil?) and how her collection targets a young, forward-thinking crowd but can fit into more conservative homes just as well.

Following the Q&A, enthusiastic fans snapped photos with Gorder, who is one of three judges on the show HGTV Design Star and is currently working on a series about the renovation of her home in New York City.
